SYNOPSIS

Conquest and destruction of the Indies thoroughly analyses the huge genocide caused by the conquest and colonization, the past and current theories that either deny or justify it, the legislation protective towards the natives, the use of terror as an strategy, the assassination, systematic rapes, plundering, acts of paedophilia and other humiliations committed by conquerors, murderer priests and “encomenderos” (people who were granted a trusteeship over the natives) against the Indians.

It also describes the resistance of the Indians, especially in the Greater Antilles, the so called “new Spain” and in Peru. The book also relates the efforts of good Spaniards who ended up by being poisoned, jailed or persecuted because of their defence of the Indians dignity and opposition to the genocide.
