SYNOPSIS

Yechezkel Damjanich is a young Jewish violinist who lives with his mother in the devastated Budapest of 1947. One day, he receives a letter from Jerusalem from his uncle Yosef, whom he hasn't heard from for 12 years, and who his mother loathes for no apparent reason. Fleeing poverty, the two arrive in Palestine at a turbulent political moment, just before the English leave the region. Uncle Yosef runs Café Budapest, a picturesque place close to the old city, where Jews, Arabs and Westerners co-exists… An ephemeral oasis of harmony where the notes from Yechezkel's violin soon give way to the roar of the Davidka mortars, the Arabs' bombs, hated and destruction. Café Budapest becomes a small stage where the chaos and barbarity present all over Palestina are reflected.
