Alfonso Zapico (Blimea, Asturias, 1981). Storyteller and freelance illustrator. Works on educational projects with the Principado de Asturias as well as carrying out illustrations, designs and campaigns for numerous advertising agencies, publishers and various institutions. He provides illustrations for newspapers in Asturias.
His first published work was a historical comic book, 'La guerra del profesor Bertenev', which came out in the Franco-Flemish market (Paquet, 2006; Dolmen, 2009). His graphic novel Café Budapest (Astiberri 2008, Timof, 2010) took the desolation of Budapest in 1947 as its starting point, and this was Zapico's first work to be published in Spain; the work was taken as a reflection of the chaos and barbarism of modern day Palestine.
Zapico was awarded the Josep Toutain del Salón Internacional del Cómic de Barcelona Prize in 2010. He currently resides in France, where he is working on various projects.
