Almudena Villegas Becerril graduated in Geography and History from the University of Córdoba and has a diploma in Dietetics and Nutrition from the Universidad Nacional de Educacción a Distancia (UNED). She is one of the most important professionals in the Spanish gastronomy world.
She is president of the Garum Group, a company specialising in developing advice services in the area of first generation gastronomy, a permanent member of the Real Academia de Grastronomía de España and member of the Red de Excelencia de Investigadores del Instituto Europeo de Historia de la Alimentación con sede en Tours (France).
Her long professional career and experience in the field of gastronomy has lead to her being awarded numerous national and international prizes, the most important of which are: Premio Nacional de Investigación en Gastronomía, awarded by the Real Academia de Gastronomía in 2002; Premio de la Cadena Ser for spreading knowledge of gastronomy on the radio in 2003; I Premio del Concurso Pedro Ximénez en la Cocina in 2006; Premio Nacional de Gastronomía for the best publication (Saber del sabor. Manual de cultura gastronómica, Editorial Almuzara, 2008); Premio de la Academia Internacional de Gastronomía in 2008; and Gourmand World Cookbook 2008, in the category of best book on the history of gastronomy in Spain.
