ウルグアイのモンテビデオに生まれ、現在はバルセロナに住んでいる。ブラジルで心理学を学んだが、在学中に、自分は別の職業に就きたいんだということに気づいた。新聞で見た児童文学コンクールのお知らせが、進むべき道を示してくれた。これがのちの、多作で多くの賞を受ける作家の誕生の瞬間だったと言えるだろう。セラ・ドール賞（カタルーニャ語以外の本として初めての受賞）、アペラス・メストラス賞、1987年のアウストラル児童賞やラサリーリョ賞など、重要な賞をいくつも手中にしてきた。

Er wurde in Montevideo, Uruguay, geboren, lebt aber in Barcelona. Er studierte in Brasilien Psychologie und stellte im Laufe seines Berufslebens fest, dass er eine andere Richtung einschlagen wollte. Die Ankündigung eines Wettbewerbs für Kinderliteratur in einer Zeitung wies ihm den Weg.

He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, but now lives in Barcelona, Spain. While studying psychology in Brazil, he realised he wanted to explore other career paths. An advertisement for a children's literature competition in a newspaper showed him the way forward.

Ricardo Alcántara est né à Montevideo. Après des études de psychologie, il s'installe  en 1975 à Barcelone, où il vit et se consacre à la littérature. Il a publié un grand nombre de livres, certains traduits dans de nombreuses langues.
