ダミアンは35年前から映画館の映写室で働いている。自らの手で映した映画を通して世の中を見ることに慣れ、その登場人物のように考えたり話したりする。ところがある日、映画館が閉鎖されることになり、彼の知る世界はがらりと変わる。彼も妻も失職し、しだいに自分たちが他人の目には見えない存在になっていくことに気づく。社会的にというだけでなく、物理的に消えていくのだ。しかし、混乱や新たな状況への戸惑いは、自分たちと同じ状況にある人びとと知り合うことでやわらいでいき、その人びとの中に助けを見いだしていく。
