Born in Vitoria in the Basque Country in 1962, he has a degree in Basque and Hispanic literature and is the author of multiple books and articles about legal and administrative language. He is also a professor at the Escuela de Escritores.

Nascido em Vitoria, País Basco, em 1962, é bacharel em Filologia Basca e Filologia Hispânica, é autor de diversos livros e artigos sobre linguagem jurídica e administrativa. É também professor da Escola de Escritores.

ホセ・ソト=チカは職業軍人でボスニア・ヘルツェゴヴィナに国連の平和部隊（国際連合保護軍、UMPROFOR）として派遣されていた。爆発物による事故で片足を失い、盲目になったことで、人生の転換を図り、本当に興味があった歴史の道に進む。現在は中世史の博士号を持ち、准教授として教鞭を執るほか、ビザンチン、ネオギリシャ及びキプロス研究センターで調査・研究に勤しむ。
