Ryo doesn’t understand why the war has taken his father far away from Nagasaki. Nor does he understand why everything has changed: the storytellers’ bells don’t ring any more to announce their arrival, food is becoming more scarce and his friend Reyko doesn’t seem the same. And his mother is sad and his grandmother Saya is so harsh that she makes daily life difficult.

Ryo is forced to grow up, he’s no longer a child and is conscious of the world that surrounds him. His cat Wara will give him tips so as to get close to Reyko again: he’ll only get the magic back if he’s able to fight to do something extraordinary.
