Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón

Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón (Torrelavega, Cantabria, 1942) is a film director and writer. His first feature-length film was 'Habla, mudita' (1973), which won the Critics' Prize at the Berlin Film Festival. Among his best-known films are 'Camada negra' (1977), which won the Gold Bear at the Berlin Film Festival; 'Maravillas' (1980); 'Demonios en el jardín' (1982), Critics' Prize at the Moscow Film Festival and the Donatello prize at the Italian Film Academy; 'La mitad del cielo' (1986), Concha de Oro prize at the San Sebastián Film Festival. He has received the Fotogramas de Plata prize for best film four times. He won the Premio Ondas for 'Cosas que dejé en La Habana'. In 2003 he was elected as a member of the San Fernando Real Academia de Bellas Artes, and in 2005 was awarded the National Film Prize.
