Wichi is a twelve-year-old Thai girl, intelligent, joyful and outgoing. Happy because her parents live together and love each other, things begin to go wrong the day her mother starts spending the little money they have on gambling. Her despairing father turns to alcohol and disappears from the family home, never to return. Wichi's world crumbles once and for all when her mother dies and she remains under the care of her grandmother, Mrs Phakamon, a wicked old woman who never loved her and who plans to get rid of Wichi by abandoning her in a brothel. Nevertheless, thanks to the miraculous intervention of Siri, the only person who cares about Wichi, both girls begin an escape that will take them far away from their terrible fate.
