A girl arrives in Minorca with her parents. The island is one of the many places she lives in during a life in which change is habitual. El Calypso, a house with a view of a lighthouse, is her new home. During this time, María grows up, exploring parts of the island in which people with strange lives are hidden. She has a carer who is a nun, two boyfriends, a friend who is a waiter in a knocking shop, makes expeditions to hotels housing greedy foreigners, goes on boat trips, has accidents. Uncovered Swimming Pools is a tribute to a largely independent childhood.
