When an English boat brings coal for the furnaces, becomes stranded off the Cantabric coast, finally breaking and dumping its load into the sea. The whole village of Algorta, during the night, wakes up to pick the very much needed coal up. Sabas Jauregui is aware that he cannot let such an opportunity go by, and involves his whole family. In the middle of the storm, Sabas and his children Fermín, Cosme, Bruno and Ismael, along with Pedro, his brother in law, seach for a good spot on the cliffs. At midnight, tragedy strikes and the family will sink deeper and deeper into tragedy. Each one will have to fight his own battles, but Sabas’ tenacity will overrule; his will, despite the underlying hatred, will push them all in different directions. Only Ismael, the youngest, will defend his dad unconditionally.
