SYNOPSIS

The protagonist is a literature teacher and admirer of Hanif Kureishi and Philip Roth who describes his daily life to a friend who has decided to return to Morocco, their homeland, to bring up his children there. The protagonist does NOT want to have children, does NOT dare to live with the woman he loves, does NOT accept the seclusion of muslims within Islam, does NOT succeed in controlling his sex addiction, does NOT feel satisfied, does NOT consider himself caught between two cultures and will NOT return to Morocco. In 'NO' ('NOT') Saïd El Kadaoui Moussaoui paints the contradictions and feelings of the children of immigrants from the Maghreb with great lucidity, sincerity and humour. They are a second generation which knew how to make the most of the opportunity the West offered them but, in common with any other Europeans, this culture didn't make them happy either.
