Eyes Closed is a novel about a single place, Pueblo Chico, a small town, no different from any other, perched on the side of a craggy mountain range that is sometimes covered in mist, sometimes in snow, in which animals are sometimes lost and people disappear. It is the home of Pedro, the elderly protagonist of this novel, a depositary of secrets related to the violence that has assaulted the place for decades. When Ariadna arrives in Pueblo Chico for reasons that are initially unclear, Pedro observes and keeps watch on her, while Ariadna gradually uncovers her own links to the buried history of the place. The meeting of past and present, of Pedro and Ariadna, is the basis of a novel in which Edurne Portela delves into the violence that, although it irreversibly changes the lives of the characters, also generates the possibility of a space for solidarity and peaceful cohabitation.
