SYNOPSIS

This study establishes the usefulness for social issues of multivariate techniques that lead to an acceleration of countries’ development processes. The concepts of a social indicator (along with the relevant authors’ criteria) and of the comprehensive development of countries are presented, according to UN declarations on the promotion and protection of indigenous peoples. An experimental analysis with 96 social indicators from 72 countries in various stages of development is used to elaborate comprehensive development rates, useful for classifying levels of development. Data are employed from recognised prestigious international organisms. The multivariate techniques allow acceptable conclusions to be drawn. The rates of development elaborated demonstrate the differences between countries. An applicable model is presented that highlights the main problems arising from its execution.
