The difficulties women have had to face in order to make their presence felt in many professions are well known by all, and so it is perhaps not surprising that the role of women in early aeronautics was bound to be a road plagued with obstacles and misunderstandings. Nevertheless, reading this book we come across a surprising number of female pioneers who, with great determination and enthusiasm, proved capable of making their dream of flying a reality. Such was the case of Elisabet Thible, who, in 1784, rose into the air above Lyon on board a hot air balloon, or Amelia Earhart, who in 1928 became the first female aviator to cross the Atlantic.
