A group of jobless people gets together every day in the park opposite the job centre where they met. One man always shares out his cigarettes, but one morning he doesn’t show up and they discover he has been murdered. Susano ate lunch with him the day before and is suspected of his death. But that is the least of his problems; he’s also fallen behind on his mortgage payments and is about to be evicted, he’s fallen for his ex-wife’s niece, and his lodgers just happen to be a couple of police officers. The others in the group all have their own problems, and together, they concoct a collection of stories that Susano relates to his friend, who is dying of cancer, while he sits by his side. The sort of stories that he won’t mind forgetting when he dies.
