The novel tells the story of a young woman in contemporary Barcelona. It is narrated in the first person with a Joycean ‘a day in the life of…’ style of voice, although the novel takes place over several different days. It recounts the vicissitudes of a girl who has to face the contradictions of a generation on the verge of turning thirty and finds herself living an entirely different reality to the one experienced by her parents at the same age, a generation that, due to historical reasons, was more politicised, more conscious of class distinctions, and yet her personal situation is much more precarious. The narrator has an unstable job – she ends up getting fired – she is involved in a relationship which, seen through the lens of post-modern libertarian logic, will end up failing; she will see her closest friendships shaken and, with all this, she will find it hard to find a sense of equilibrium
