The plot takes place at two levels, two stories that evolve in parallel. The first one takes us to the beautiful world of the Sufi era, when Baghdad had a caliph and the Arab culture was in its golden age. The second takes us to a closer world, one of violence and ignominy, the Baghdad of today. The bombarded Baghdad, the Baghdad in decline. They are both sides of the same town personified in the eyes of two children.
