Kenia, 1947. An elephant is born in a village near the Cunningham family's tea plantation. Little Archibald's childhood will be marked forever by this extraordinary event. The link that forms between the two will endure for seventy years and nothing, not even moving continents, or any of life's other twists and turns will break the friendship between the boy and the elephant, between humans and nature. Despite leaving Africa aged 11, Archibald Cunningham always dreams of returning and meeting his friend again, but only when he reaches his seventy-sixth birthday, just after retiring, does he achieve his ambition: to see elephants in the wild again.
