Víctor del Árbol (Barcelona, 1968) is a writer. His novels include El peso de los muertos (‘The Weight of the Dead’, winner of the 2006 Tiflos novel prize), La tristeza del samurái (‘The Sadness of the Samurai’, winner of the Prix du Polar Européen 2012), Respirar por la herida (‘Breathing through the Pain’, shortlisted for the best foreign novel prize at the 2014 Festival de Beaune), Un millón de gotas (‘A Million Drops’, winner of the 2015 Grand Prix de Littérature Policière and one of the most outstanding books in the United States in 2021 according to Publishers Weekly), La víspera de casi todo (‘The Eve of Almost Everything’, winner of the Premio Nadal de novela 2016), Por encima de la lluvia (‘Above the Rain’, 2017), Antes de los años terribles (‘Before the Awful Years’ 2019) and El hijo del padre (‘The Father’s Son’, 2021). His books have been translated into multiple languages and have enjoyed great success in France, where he was made a chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2018.
