Vicente Muñoz Puelles was born in 1948 in Valencia. From an early age he has devoted himself to literature. His extensive output spans vaarious genres (novels, short stories, essays...). He has received, among others, the Azorín Prize (1993) for La emperatriz Eugenia en Zululandia [Empress Eugenia in Zululandia], and the Alfons el Magnánim Prize for narrative (2002) for Las desventuras de un escritor en provincias [The Misadventures of a Writer in the Provinces]. From his incursions into children's and young people's literature, awards of note include the National Prize (1999) for Óscar y el león de Correos [Oscar and the Postal Lion], the Anaya Prize for Children's and Young People's Literature, which he won twice for El arca y yo [The Ark and I] (2004) and La voz del árbol [The Voice of the Tree](2014), and the Libreros de Asturias Prize for La perrona [The Coin] (2005). He has published biographies of Columbus, Goya, Ramón y Cajal, Darwin, Dickens, Marie Curie, Einstein and Shakespeare. A scholar of Don Quixote and a translator, he has produced critical editions and has been translated into numerous languages.
