Tomás González

Tomás González (Colombia, 1950) studied philosophy at the National University of Bogotá and worked as a barman at the Pagan Delight disco, publishing his first novel in 1983. He lived for three years in Miami and sixteen in New York, where he wrote most of his work and earned a living as a translator. He returned to Colombia in 2002 and lives in Cachipay, two hours from Bogotá. His books include Primero estaba el mar (First Came the Sea, 1983), Para antes del olvido (Before Forgetting, 1987), La historia de Horacio (Horatio’s Story, 2000), Los caballitos del diablo (The Devil’s Horses, 2003) and Abraham entre bandidos (Abraham Among the Bandits, Alfaguara, 2010); the short story collection El rey del Honka-Monka (The King of Honka-Monka, 1995) and a poetry collection, Manglares (Mangroves, 1997/2006). His work has been translated into German and French.
