Mateo Miguel was born in 1960 in Mexico City. He studied biology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and also took various biochemistry courses at the Centre for Research and Advanced Studies at the National Polytechnic Institute. He became involved in publishing at a young age and even took a diploma at the Writers’ School of the Sociedad General de Escritores de México. He has edited magazines, science and general interest books and has written various reports, accounts and interviews. He also wrote short stories that were printed in various newspapers and cultural supplements. In 1997 he won the Efraín Huerta National Short Story Prize for A las puertas de su casa (‘At the Doors of His House’, 2007). His other (unpublished) collection of short stories is Paisajes interiores (‘Interior Landscapes’). He published his first novel, Negro corazón (‘Black Heart’) in 2016 and is now ready to share his second novel, Sandunga.
