Mariasun Landa was born in Rentería (Gipuzkoa) in 1949. She graduated in Philosophy, and lived for some years in Paris. She has worked as a teacher for many years and continues to teach now. Her works have been awarded prizes such as the Xabier Lizardi in 1982 and the Bilintx in 1987, as well as being included in the White Ravens for her book ‘Elephant with a Bird’s Heart’. She won the 2003 National Prize for Children’s Literature.
