Kirmen Uribe

Born in Vizcaya in 1970, Uribe graduated with a degree in Basque Philology and completed his post-graduate studies in Comparative Literature in Trento. He creates multimedia projects that combine literature with different artistic disciplines, and has participated in literary conferences in Europe, Asia and America. He has translated Raymond Carver, Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, Mahmud Darwish and Wislawa Szymborska, among others, and contributes to several publications, including the prestigious magazine The New Yorker. The publication in 2001 of his collection of poems Bitartean heldu eskutik (give me your hand in the meantime, 2003) signified, according to critics, a “quiet revolution” in the field of Basque literature. Translated into Spanish, French, English and Russian, the collection was awarded the National Critics’ Prize and chosen as a finalist for the best book of poetry translated into English in 2007 in the United States.
