Emily Dickinson: As a literary figure, Dickinson is a legend. A great reader of the classics, she knew science and music, and her genius went beyond the conventions of her time. Shut out from the world in her room, she communicated with a select few, primarily through letters that included fragments written in verse. Despite her isolation, her poetry conveys an infinity and a freedom that has conquered readers all around the world. Most of her work was published after her death, in 1886.
