Care Santos was born in Mataró (Barcelona) in 1970. She is the author of many books, including novels, story collections and fiction for children and young people. She writes both in Spanish and Catalan. She has won numerous prizes, most significantly the Premio Nadal de Novela 2017 and the Premi de les Lletres Catalanes Ramon Llull 2014. Among her titles are Habitaciones cerradas (Closed Rooms) (Planeta, adapted for television in 2012 and shown as a miniseries on TVE) El aire que respiras (The Air You Breathe) Diamante azul (Blue Diamond) and Media Vida (Half a Life). Her work has been translated into 23 languages.
