Born in Barcelona in 1925, Ana María Matute is one of the most distinguished writers in Spanish literature. This is well
illustrated by the numerous and renowned prizes she has been awarded: the Critics Award, the Nadal Prize, the Fastenrath Award given by the Real Academia Española, the Planeta Prize
and the National Children’s Literature Prize, among others. In 2007 she was awarded the National Prize for Spanish Letters for her career.
She is also a member of the Real Academia Española and the Hispanic Society of America.
