Born in Madrid, Jiménez Ganica graduated in Ancient History in 1976 with a dissertation on 4th century Latin panegyrics. In 1977 she was awarded a Research Training Grant from the MEC to write her doctoral thesis, which was published in 1983 (Orígenes y desarollo del reino visigodo de Tolosa. 418-507). The following year she was awarded a grant by the French government to continue her research at the University of Toulouse Le-Mirail. In 1979 she passed the exams to become a secondary school teacher, and has been developing her teaching work in parallel with her research. She has published 'La desintegración del Imperio Romano de Occidente' (Madrid, Akal, 1990, vol. nº 65 of the collection Historia del Mundo Antiguo), El Cantar de Valtario (Madrid, Gredos, Clásicos Medievales collection, nº 8, 1998) and articles in anthologies and specialist journals in Spain and abroad.
