The main character of Alone in the Bars of the Night is Diego, who knows he can't spend his entire life in Dublin, the city he chose to create a different existence for himself, devoting himself to drink between new friendships and bouts of melancholia. Inside him there is a sort of crime waiting to be committed, which impels him to return to the faces and places of his past: a Barcelona where he can hide in safety and accept his fate. There he will continue to wander under the instinct of beating his fears, of feeling alone even in the company of night, its bars and a whole world of lonely people who, like him, walk their own paths. But returning to a familiar place, to the former terrain of alcohol and an old love with a story of its own, does not provide his escape, even as he faces his most intimate truth.
