"A woman cannot be herself in modern society", wrote Henrik Ibsen in 1878. Things have changed, but not enough. Almost 150 years later, a young actress knows how to change her face and voice, but feels she cannot be herself. She wants to be looked at because as if she is nothing without the gaze of others, that being an actress is the only way of being a woman that is within her grasp, that the world pushes her to empty out her inner self and turn outwards, towards the pleasure and desire of others. When she enrols in a drama school, she meets a very special teacher whose theatre history classes help her to reinterpret her own history and better understand her identity.
