A motionless shadow projected onto a wall in the middle of a wood. That is what the strange anonymous films that have arrived in Professor Martin Torres' mailbox show. The sender, the young artist Anna Morelli, has found them by chance in an antique shop in New Jersey and wants to use them for her new art project at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, where Martin was a research fellow more than ten years ago. Anna's proposal could not be more attractive: the chance to go back to Clark for a semester to write about the films and provide a history for some images about which nothing is known. Martin, who has just thrown away his academic career and whose personal wife is going from bad to worse following his divorce from Lara, accepts the invitation without much need for consideration. However, escaping the present is not going to be that easy.
