Born in Alburquerque, Badajoz,1948, with a degree in Spanish Language from the Complutense University, Luis Landero has taught literature at the School of Dramatic Arts in Madrid, and was an visiting professor at Yale University. He first became well-known with “Juegos de la edad tardía” (Games of Old Age) in 1989 (Critic's Prize and National Prize for Literature, 1990), which was followed by, among others: “Caballeros de fortuna” (Knights of Fate), “El mágico aprendiz” (The Magical Apprentice), “Hoy Júpiter” (Today, Jupiter: Arcebispo Juan de San Clemente Prize), “Absolución” (Absolution), “El balcón en invierno” (The Balcony in Winter: Dulce Chacón Prize and Madrid Bookseller's book of the year), “La vida negociable” (Negotiable Life: Madrid Prize for Culture), “El huerto de Emerson” (Emerson's Orchard) and the acclaimed “Lluvia fina” (Light Rain), which has sold 125,000 copies and was unanimously elected the best Spanish novel in 2019 and awarded both the Casino de Santiago and the Madrid Critic's Prize. Translated into several languages, Landero is already one of the key names in Spanish literature.
