Eduardo Halfon was born in Guatemala in 1971. He studied Industrial Engineering at the North Carolina State University and lectured in Literature at the Universidad Francisco Marroquín of Guatemala. He has published the works Esto no es una pipa, Saturno (Alfaguara, Guatemala, 2003), De cabo roto (Littera, Barcelona, 2003), El ángel literario (Anagrama, Barcelona, 2004, Semi-finalist for the Premio Herralde de Novela awards), and the collections of short stories Siete minutes de desasosiego (Panamericana, Bogotá, 2007) and Clases de hebreo (AMG, Logroño, 2008). His work has been translated into Serbian and Portuguese. In 2007 he was named one of the best young Latin American writers by the Hay Festival of Bogotá.
