Albert Casals i Serradó was born in Barcelona in 1990. At the
age of five he suffered a mononucleosis infection that developed
into leukaemia, leaving him confined to a wheelchair. Since the age of seven he has lived in Esparreguera (Barcelona), where he completed his high school studies, with his parents and sister. At the age of fourteen he began to travel the world on his own. Now he is eighteen years old and he has spent the last seven months travelling around America during a gap year before beginning university. He was recently named ambassador for the Step-by-Step foundation (www.fundacionsbs.org), dedicated to the rehabilitation of patients with spinal injuries.
